You can’t help but question his enthusiasm for the X-Files film. “It was the television show that I was ready to leave. I wouldn’t go and do the TV show again. That would be serving the same apprenticeship.” The pressure during that series was so immense that at one point he had to co-write an episode with the series’ creator, Chris Carter, with whom he was not even speaking at the time.
