I love your perspective on their relationship. Though I do think they had some rough times during the show I think age had a lot to do with it. I think they were young and, as David has mentioned before, were thrown together for long periods of time and they barely knew each other. They were also thrown into the spotlight and that made it hard for them. I feel like during the XF2 movie though they definitely grew up as people and as actors and then they really formed a solid friendship. Agree?

I think age and experience was a big factor, too. By XF2 the whole field had changed, and that was really obvious. I think the feeling that they were chained together (and to the show) was a real difficulty for them both (while, ironically, it was also one of the main reasons for their bond), and once they got away from that and put it behind them, then they could be easier with each other. I think David grew up a lot when he had kids, and Gillian benefited a lot from getting out of the US celebrity culture. But now, like you say, their affection seems totally genuine.
