“I was out with my partner last night, quite late, grabbing a bite to eat, and there was a table full of giggly 20-something girls, drinking and talking non-stop, you know just out having fun. Not that was very much part of my life even before we started the series, but when I think to myself, ‘where was I then?’ or ‘how did I end up skipping that period?’
“I forget that I ended up skipping that period because I was working those years, instead of being out with girlfriends, or… out in the social scene and stuff. I was very myopic, and we were so often in Vancouver, and there just wasn’t room for it, there wasn’t enough time. It was… I don’t… I don’t regret it in any way, shape, or form. But I think I sometimes forget that I was AWOL almost for a decade.”

As Duchovny asks whether even that much should be revealed, Anderson replies that fans couldn’t tell who. “It could be anyone,” she says, “Who knows that it’s not (villain) Krycek or something?”“Because he’s dead,” Duchovny points out.“Oh, is he?” she responds, and they both laugh. “I never knew even when we were shooting it, so I’m no different now.”

“I have a feeling David and I will be much closer after the series is done and we don’t have to be with each other daily. We can come back together for a second feature four or so years from now.
“As much as I will feel a huge weight off my shoulders when the series is done, it’s gonna be bittersweet. I’m sure all those wonderful moments that David and I have shared together will come to mind and I’ll be reminiscing about it for years.”
Gillian Anderson, “Movieline,” 1997

Haha, four years from 1997.

Gillian Anderson’s top 30 memories of the series (2002):

28. Talking to David for the very first time outside the audition as he chatted up the girls and commenting on the fact that I was from N.Y. and not really meaning FROM FROM but the disappointment which flashed across his face when I qualified that I had only actually lived there a couple years. He moved on to someone else.

(I’ll be posting all their differing versions of this memory!)

What did you think of David Duchovny when you first met to make the pilot episode?
“We hit it off straight away. We almost fell into a rhythm while we were reading together and it felt really comfortable.”

Did you and David have instant chemistry?
“He came over to me in the hallway at the network audition and asked if we could read through the scene together. We did, and it was amazing. Better than anything that we’ve done since.”
- Gillian Anderson, Rolling Stone, May 1996

#13. Telling David in his trailer that I was pregnant and him telling me that he felt his knees buckle. Blue, as a puppy was lying sick on his bed behind him having just been spayed.

#18. I remember sitting at a wooden table with David on the set when Pendrell was shot and David telling me about this date he had with a woman whose name he would not tell me but it was kind of like the tea that you drink.

From the moment ”How the Ghosts Stole Christmas” started, it was fun; from sitting in the car and having the conversation about Christmas to the non stop bickering to ‘what are we doing here?’

G: Then something else happened, that we can’t remember, during the actual series that was six years ago.  Apparently we had a baby.D: Yeah, a lot of stuff happened.Q: Wait a minute, there was a baby?D: Yeah, there was a baby. We don’t like to talk about it. It’s painful.G: Yeah! Yeah, we had a baby. I’d forgotten about it too so I don’t blame you.Q: It looks like there is one now.
