“Gillian has beautiful eyes. Her eyes anchor me to the scene. They’re big and they’re blue and they’re wet. And the top of her nose goes up and down when she talks. Her nose is a good actor.” DD

“But there’s no doubt he is an incredibly attractive man, mostly because of his sense of self and his charisma. He has a certain arrogance that’s very appealing to women. I could see us at some point going on a date. But I don’t know how long it would last. I don’t see myself as his type.” GA, Movieline, 1998

“David can be a really nice guy,” Anderson declares, laughing. “He’s got the ability to be absolutely compassionate and caring. At the same time, he’s one of the moodiest people I’ve ever met. But you forgive him because he’s so charming and can be so sweet and funny.” Gillian, ‘TV Guide,’ December 1996

Were you aware of FOX’s reluctance to cast Gillian?
“That’s overblown. You look at Gillian, and she’s a beautiful woman. And how often do you see Scully in a bathing suit? Gillian’s not six feet tall and doesn’t have what’s-her-face’s tits, but she’s got as nice a face as any of them. Maybe they thought she’s not tall enough or not Pamela Anderson enough.”

hahaha I was nearly squirming reading that last quote. LOVE how Gillian can't stop herself. And really, where can you go after "well hung"?! Awkward! Isn't there a quote where David talks about Gillian's body? If I remember correctly, it's pretty lukewarm compared, something along the lines of "she's just as pretty as anyone out there.. even though she doesn't have the biggest breasts..." or something! Anyway, thank you for this. It made me laugh. I had no idea Gillian went there!

Hahahaha YES, you are referring to the “what’s-her-face’s tits” comment, which is my second favorite David compliment. “It’s not like she’s some hideous cow” is my top favorite, though APPARENTLY I haven’t posted that one yet. Gotta fix that.

“I don’t think that’s necessarily true [that the network was reluctant to cast Gillian because of her looks]. They say that, but it’s not really true. Chris Carter had many things in mind, and Gillian Anderson is a pretty woman. I don’t know what the problem is there. It’s not like she’s a hideous cow.”

Tell me one thing about Gillian.
“That’s such a hard question. She’s a really hardworking actress. When you’re tired and you want to move on, she stays in there. She always tries to do it as well as she can, despite fatigue or lack of attention. And that can be pretty inspiring— and pretty infuriating.”David Duchovny, E! Online, 1998

Aw, I actually didn't feel like the comment about her eyes (and the top of her nose going up and down when she talks...hee) was facetious. Granted, it's about the ONLY thing he's ever said that I HAVEN'T thought was facetious, so. I could be wrong. But I always thought it was sweet. Doesn't mean it doesn't fall under "hilariously awkward" though. Remember when she said he told her watching HoM was like watching someone die of a papercut and she was like "No, that's a compliment!" Oh, David.

I don’t know, maybe it started out sincere, but he definitely undercuts it by the end. “Her nose is a good actor”? A total backdown. Plus, the whole thing reads like a third grade essay. This is a man terrified of his emotions.

“Gillian isn’t heavy, but she weighs more than a lunch pail, and I don’t think anybody could have actually carried her up that [entire] vertical climb. I like to do [stunts] for real, to do them myself, because it’s much better as an actor to actually be doing it so you’re not faking some kind of grimace. You’re actually having a hernia, which is much better than faking it.”
DD, XF Official Magazine, June 1998
