“We all, at this point, love the show. We all, at this point, would love to work with one another again. We’re all good friends and miss one another, and miss working together. We worked together so hard for so long, so closely. We had some ups and downs personally, sure. But in the end, they are really like family to me. We’re all like this little ‘X-Files’ family and I, for one, would love to continue.”DD, Moviefone, 2010

“Oh, we were just two young people who were catapulted into a incredibly successful TV show. The success brought along a lot of stress, and we weren’t always as prepared for that. There were days we got along very well and had a lot of fun, but there were days we couldn’t see each other’s face anymore. That’s very human, if you ask me.”

DD: To be honest, it’s hard to work with the same people every day - you know, you have your normal ups and downs. So, I’m not denying that there’s ever tension. There’s tension between Rob [Bowman] and I sometimes so, you know, shit happens. I really think that it’s… you know, I don’t know what’s next. I mean, I remember reading stuff where I wanted to steal Gillian away from her husband and I’ve read stuff where she kicked my wife off the set. Now, that’s utter bullshit, you know, nobody can dare kick my wife off the set. I can’t get her ON the set.Q: So, the rumors of hair-pulling were greatly exaggerated?DD: Hair-pulling? (laughs) I think Gillian pulled the hair on my arm once. (laughs again) HSX, 1997

“It’s a long time, it’s a long of work, you’re in this crucible, it becomes this juggernaut… and we become like, hugely famous people, and we all change a little bit, go a little crazy, think that we’re special, and then we come back down to earth and we know that we’re not…
“And it’s just all these things that happen. We see the worst of each other. Fame brings out the worst in people, as does success, in a weird way. Until it doesn’t, until you learn how to deal with it, until you learn what it’s all about. And I think now we do. And now that we all do, we just really appreciate one another for having gone through that experience. And not only that, but I appreciate her talent much more than I ever did.”
- DD, Popcorn with Peter Travers, 2008

Has she seen Duchovny since the show ended? “I was in LA recently and we had lunch,” she replies, curtly. How was it? “Very pleasant.” A pause and then some elaboration: “You see, we were essentially married. We saw each other more than either of us saw our partners. And it was like any relationship - it had its ups and downs.”GA, March 2004, Financial Times

Sounding very much like Scully describing Mulder, Anderson admits, “We have our ups and downs. At times it’s difficult. We both tend to be quite moody, but underneath I think we care about each other.”
They are both coy about whether they ever considered dating, but Anderson will allow that Duchovny is “like catnip” to women. When told this later, Duchovny, soon to be featured in a Playgirl interview, snorts. “Just call me David Ducatnip,” he says. “I wish I had the life people think I have.”

Nonetheless there is a lighthearted mood on the set today. Perhaps it is because the lines the actors are shooting are funny. Perhaps it is because this is Duchovny’s last day here before Christmas; starting tomorrow, he has 17 days off, his longest break in three years.
“We’ve been together five years,” he says, “and there’s some days like this and some days where we all hate each other.”
US Magazine, March 1998
